Time After Time

Yesterday was a sublime lazy Saturday. I slept in, did a little shopping downtown, and then watched Julie & Julia. The movie inspired many things...

Cook... (I mean, could anyone watch that movie and not feel the craving?)

Seek out a vintage typewriter... (Something I've always wanted, but the search has been on the back burner.)

Listen to more Margaret Whiting.
(I think this song would be perfect for a first dance at a wedding)

Get around to sewing some aprons.

New and Improved Craft Station

This weekend I reevaluated my crafting space and found that I needed a bit more room. Another desk was just the ticket. Now I can spread out and not be confined to one surface, which was pretty much consumed by my sewing machine. Now sewing projects and paper crafts can coexist in harmony :)

I can only imagine that my need for space and surfaces will grow. In June I am moving up to Rhode Island to move in with my fella and he's admitted his concern for accommodating my craft space. "How many desks will you need?" he asked. In reality, I'll probably have a designated corner somewhere until we get a bigger place. But he's already promised me a craft studio someday. What a guy! Until then, I'll be sketching plans in my brain...

I LOVE this closet craft space designed by Livy. I'm always inspired by her blog (which you should really visit) A Field Journal at www.afieldjournal.blogspot.com.

So darn cute!

I came across this craft on another blog and can't wait to make one for myself! These dollies were created by Emily Martin who is the top seller on Etsy. Visit her blog at http://www.theblackapple.typepad.com/ and be bombarded by adorableness!

And thanks to sew-ing.blogspot for sharing the idea :)

Oh Martha...

Yesterday I was at Barnes and Noble and found this amazing book while browsing the crafting section. Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts is AMAZING. From basic techniques for sewing, fabric dyeing, embroidery, printing (and more) to 150 awesome projects, I was more than inspired to take it home and try one immediately. There are a wide variety of projects, which I like because lots of craft books have multiple projects for just one craft like book-making, decor, clothing, toys, organization, etc. Martha has all these (plus so many more than I mentioned)! What's even more awesome, the book comes with a CD of all the patterns and templates used in the book. Anyway, you get the idea. I love this book.

I've even completed my first project...

...What should I try next?

I've got the itch to stitch.

Two of the greatest traits I've aquired from my Mother is her creativity and craftiness. As far back as I can remember she has sewn my clothes, costumes, and toys...baked my birthday cakes, apaulstered our furniture, sewn our curtains, painted murals on our walls, wove baskets and so much more. Still today she is an avid rubber-stamper and card-crafter. Creating brings us joy. Being able to make something useful and beautiful with your own hands is satisfying and inspiring.

I decided to begin this blog to share my crafting ideas, projects, favorite tools, and other artists/crafters who inspire me.
